ON THE STAGE series: September 26 - October 5

In our ON THE STAGE series, we present two full length musicals, one full length play and a short one-act play at the end of their development journey.   These productions are ready for the stage, and we hope that GFTF2019 will be one of their last stops before a world premiere.

For our playwrights, ON THE STAGE offers a chance to see how all of the production and design elements come together before an audience, and after the show to interact directly with members of the audience.

When an impossible lie is discovered, the fate of these students' futures hangs in the balance.​

BUT YOU CAN STILL GET A SEAT IF YOU SHOW UP.  We reserve a few seats for each performance for walk-ups which we give away on a first-come-first serve basis to people in the stand-by line.  The stand-by line will begin 30 minutes prior to the performance outside of Lab A in Wright Hall.  
Sarah Boyd is an extraordinary human being. Not only did she build her company from scratch using nothing but willpower and fortitude, she also sits on the precipice of truly saving this planet.  Because on top of being one of the fastest growing tech companies in history, Tactix - with Sarah at its helm - will usher this planet into the post-plastic era.
A time where we need not worry or fret over the great destruction being done to our world from this non-biodegradable foe. With her eyes steady on her next round of funding, Sarah must persevere through a late night interview with a particularly tough reporter, a lawsuit aimed at a person from her past, and the waffling of her CTO. It's a heavy load, and Sarah knows that she is the only one great enough to bear it.

Both are desperate to sustain faith in humanity as rudeness and waste overtake what they thought were pristine oases. Facing their worst fears, they find a connection within themselves and each other. Is that enough to sustain them--or the world?

OFF THE PAGE series:  September 14 - 16

Plays in the OFF THE PAGE series present at the middle stage of their development process.  These plays are ready for their first exposure to a public audience, with a lightly staged, book-in-hand performance focusing on the how the script works in front of an audience without yet integrating full production and design elements.
For the playwright, this vital step may often provide the first opportunity to receive feedback from a public audience, and frequently leads to pivotal development breakthroughs.  OFF THE PAGE audience members have the chance play a critical role in the journey forward for the project.

Shining and Spark, son and daughter of Helios, God who moves the sun, and Clymene, Daughter of the Ocean, have a lot of questions. Are their parents really who they say they are? Why do boys have to go to school, and why isn’t Spark allowed to spark? This riff on the myth of the phaeton and the beginning of Ovid’s metamorphosis questions the status quo, in some places with subtle lyricism, but at other times with broad, comical, and oh-so-satisfying strokes.

When Abby and Clark become parents for the first time at age 40, Abby finds herself feeling trapped until she participates in vicarious living through the young couple living across the street until tragedy strikes, propelling her back into her own reality.

AT THE TABLE series

Plays AT THE TABLE make important first steps on the path to production, and often the ink may still be drying on the most recent draft.  Development on these plays focuses on table work, puzzling out challenging moments, and hearing what the words sound like spoken by actors.  Likely, playwrights with plays AT THE TABLE will be hearing their words spoken aloud for the first time, and typically these plays are not ready for an audience. ​

I found him unconscious in the street, after some shopping, I found him unconscious in the streets, it can be terribly hot in here. I found him and I thought, that's my last chance. Unemployed and on pills, Daisy tries to save the "left on the pavement" species. Douglas, her partner, wouldn't approve or either understand... Maybe if she could save them, she could save herself.
