The SpongeBob Musical is based on the beloved Nickelodeon animated TV series, with original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, John Legend, David Bowie, and more! The stakes are higher than ever in this dynamic stage musical as SpongeBob and all of Bikini Bottom face the total annihilation of their undersea world. Chaos erupts, lives hang in the balance, and just when all hope seems lost, a most unexpected hero rises up to take center stage!

Sarah Boyd is an extraordinary human being. Not only did she build her company from scratch using nothing but willpower and fortitude, she also sits on the precipice of truly saving this planet. Because on top of being one of the fastest growing tech companies in history, Tactix - with Sarah at its helm - will usher this planet into the post-plastic era.

A time where we need not worry or fret over the great destruction being done to our world from this non-biodegradable foe. With her eyes steady on her next round of funding, Sarah must persevere through a late night interview with a particularly tough reporter, a lawsuit aimed at a person from her past, and the waffling of her CTO. It's a heavy load, and Sarah knows that she is the only one great enough to bear it.

Interesting Notes:

The set was entirely sourced from existing stock, and recycled materials.
The space between the front row of the house and the downstage edge of the stage was filled with recycled plastic that we sourced by asking all GFTF ensemble members to save plastic bottles and wrappers that they use during festival. It formed quite an impressive mound.
Additionally, the plastic wall pieces were constructed of salvaged and recycled plastics.

Summertime by Mark Rigney

A new play by playwright Mark Rigney, Summertime had a pre-premiere run during the culminating “On the Stage” series at the 2018 Ground and Field Theatre Festival.

Points of Interest:

The cast consisted of 2 AEA member actors and 4 student actors from the Theatre Athletics and Ensemble Practicum group study.
As director, I requested an all-hands-on-deck attempt to make this production a “Zero Dumpster” and “Zero (material) Budget” show, focusing on reusing existing stock materials and finding the rest. We managed the former and came very close on the latter.
As with other GFTF projects, the playwright was in residence for much of the rehearsal and all of the performances, making notes and adjustments along the way.

A Crucial Stage: Theatre and the Climate Crisis

In this solo performance I wear multiple hats, playing the role of a member of Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project, a theatre practitioner, a performer, and most of all as a father. A Crucial Stage weaves together personal narratives about fatherhood and theatre in the time of climate crisis to create a compelling, and hopeful call to action.

Audio recording of Act One Scene Four:

Recorded before a live audience at the historic Kirk Douglas Theatre in Los Angeles (one of Center Theatre Group's three theatre venues) this reading of Gospel According to First Squad also served as a wonderful educational opportunity for three UC Davis theatre students who travelled to Los Angeles to perform alongside professional actors from the original award-winning cast.
